This weekend offers a variety of engaging activities, including family-friendly workshops, performances, and networking events, allowing students to share their college experience with loved ones. Black Family Weekend strengthens the bond between families and students, highlights the importance of familial support for academic success, and celebrates the cultural contributions of Black students and their families to the campus community. Black Graduation
Black Graduation is a cherished annual event that honors the academic achievements of Black students at UT Austin. This special ceremony provides graduates with a platform to reflect on their journey, recognizing the support from peers and mentors along the way. The event features inspiring keynote speakers from the Black community and creates a sense of unity and pride among participants. Black Graduation celebrates the hard work and perseverance of these students, highlighting their invaluable contributions to the university and society.
Black Inauguration
Black Inauguration celebrates the leadership of Black student presidents at UT Austin, recognizing their contributions with symbolic gavels. Brandelyn Flunder was an esteem faculty member that empowered and offered guidance to students on campus. Brianna McBride is an Longhorn alumni that served through her student leadership, exemplifying a commitment to advocacy and positive change. We present two awards in honor of their impact, nominations open annually to spotlight an exceptional faculty member and student leader. This special event unites the community to acknowledge leadership, service, and excellence within the Black student body.
New Black Student Weekend
New Black Student Weekend (NBSW) is the ultimate kickoff for incoming freshmen and transfer students! Get ready for fun summer activities like FADE sessions, What’s Up Wednesdays, Black Organization Spotlights, Live at 5, and Social Media Challenges. The weekend culminates with the official Move-In, a theme, class dance, and team competitions for bragging rights. FADE helps you connect with upperclassmen, while weekly Instagram series keep you engaged all summer. NBSW is your chance to meet new people, discover Black Student Organizations, and prepare for an epic first year on the 40 acres.
